There are often times that you’ll need to be able to locate your Google Analytics Property ID. From installing WordPress plugins, to setting up tracking in various marketing automation software, you may be asked for your ID. It’s not always easy to recall where the Property ID is in Google Analytics, so this guide was created to help quickly locate the Property ID.

How To Find Your Google Analytics Property ID

There are a number of ways to find your Google Analytics Property Tracking ID. We’ll start with the easiest and most straightforward method first, and progress into more complicated and complex methods.

  • Method 1: Find The GA Property ID In The Admin
  • Method 2: Find the GA Property ID From The Site
  • Method 3: Find The GA Property ID With A Browser Plugin

With these methods, you’ll almost certainly be able to detect and locate your Property Tracking ID in Google Analytics.

Method 1: Find The GA Property ID In The Admin

In the tutorial, you’ll want to be sure you’re already logged in to the Google Analytics account that you wish to learn the Property ID

Step 1: Open The Google Analytics Account

This should be self-evident, but regardless, be sure you are in the Analytics account.

Step 2: Click “Admin” from the Google Analytics Toolbar

Step 3: Click “Property Settings” For Your Selected Property

Step 4: Locate The Google Analytics Property ID

Method 2: Google Analytics Property ID From The Site

Sometimes, you won’t have access to Google Analytics via the admin but still need to get the Google Analytics Property ID. Another method is to view the code of the site that is known to have your Google Analytics code installed. You’ll want to search the code (CTRL+F) for the value “UA-“. Ideally, there will only be one match for “UA-“, but you should be able to locate the Google Analytics script to similar code below. In the following examples, the “UA-XXXXXX-X” value is your Google Analytics Property ID.

<script>
  (function(i,s,o,g,r,a,m){i['GoogleAnalyticsObject']=r;i[r]=i[r]||function(){
  (i[r].q=i[r].q||[]).push(arguments)},i[r].l=1*new Date();a=s.createElement(o),
  m=s.getElementsByTagName(o)[0];a.async=1;a.src=g;m.parentNode.insertBefore(a,m)
  })(window,document,'script','https://www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js','ga');

  ga('create', 'UA-XXXXXX-X', 'auto');
  ga('send', 'pageview');

</script>

Once again, the “UA-XXXXXX-X” value is your Google Analytics Property ID.

Method 3: Google Analytics Property ID With A Browser Plugin

If your site uses something like Google Tag Manager, it may not be possible to use Method 2. In this case, I’d recommend you use a browser plugin to find your Google Analytics Property ID. Two of the most popular are:

  • Chrome – Tag Assistant (by Google)
  • Firefox – Better Google Analytics
